K24110 Programmable Muffle Furnaces
These furnaces combine microprocessor control with state-of-the-art construction and forced draft capability. They are ideal for ashing a variety of samples, including petroleum products, food, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and paper. They can also be used as standard muffle furnaces for firing or annealing glass or ceramic specimens, solid-state inorganic reactions, rock and mineral fusions, sample drying, and tempering. The furnaces are offered in 0.14, 0.58, and 1.26 cu. ft. (0.004, 0.016, 0.036m3) capacities.

24-step programmability plus 4-program storage capability from each unit's integral microprocessor lets you tailor a heating program for ash and/or volatiles given any sample or method. Up to 12 heating/cooling ramps or dwell periods up to 99 hours 59 minutes each may be specified in any combination. Just enter the information prompted by the menus on the LED. An advanced self-tuning feature automatically provides the best parameter values during furnace operation. The big, bright display continually indicates furnace sequences, along with set and actual temperatures in °C or °F. Convenient program storage capability allows you to access set run parameters anytime; store up to four different programs.

Air is heated immediately as it enters chamber to maximize reproducibility. Incoming air passes directly over heater as it enters the chamber. The result is an exceptional temperature uniformity coupled with the ability to achieve 2 to 4 air changes per minute. This feature makes these furnaces ideal for determining ash in coal and coke with optimum repeatability and reproducibility. (The ample air supply ensures complete oxidation of pyritic sulfur, removing all SO2 formed.) For muffle type or static air applications, just press a button and the fan shuts off. Atmospheres other than air (N2, CO2, etc.) connect easily to the 3/8 in. (9.5mm) injection port using the Port Kit. The top-mounted exhaust port allows easy venting.

Intelligent microprocessor senses problems to protect your samples. Program the microprocessor to alert you for temperature deviations from 1° to over 100°C from the setpoint, settable in 1°C increments, to a maximum of 1125°C (2057°F). The microprocessor automatically cuts power to the heating elements and alerts you by flashing an appropriate code number on the display if temperatures rise above this set maximum. When the programmed run is completed, the furnace alerts you with a flashing indicator and automatically shuts off (unless you program it to keep running). Models also include an automatic restart feature: program them to either restart, hold or shut down after a short power loss.

Designed with safety in mind. Although these units heat to 1125°C (2057°F), multilayer asbestos-free internal insulation prevents heat from reaching the furnace exterior. Most outside surface temperatures are cool to the touch, preventing burns. Power to the heating elements shuts off whenever you open the door. A manually resettable built-in circuit breaker protects internal elements from power surges. The ventilated base prevents damage to your benchtop or tabletop.

Cabinets are made with rugged, user-friendly construction with welded steel and a baked-on finish. The chamber is heated by electric resistance heaters located on the bottom and both sides of the chamber. Elements are embedded in removable, molded alumina-silicate ceramic fiber panels for easy replacement. This material is much lighter and cleaner than traditional firebrick, so you can move the furnaces easily without chipping and dust problems. The element wire ensures a long service life, particularly in the high-sulfur atmospheres associated with coal and coke samples. The porous ceramic hearth plate spreads air temperature evenly. The 0.58 and 1.26 cu. ft. (0.016 and 0.036m3) models have ceramic fiber rope door gaskets that prevent heat loss from the chamber, and the 1.26 cu. ft model comes with a ceramic shelf.
